After nearly a decade out of the limelight – award-winning band and X-Factor finalist – JLS has revealed that their take on the music industry has changed since they became fathers.
Cambridge guy Aston Merrygold and London-born trio Oritse Williams, Marvin Humes and JB Gill joined Lorraine Kelly this morning (December 9) to discuss how their lives have changed since they reunited after seven years of separation.
“We’re busier because we all have kids,” said Marvin, 36, who now hosts the capital’s nighttime show Monday through Thursday.
“That’s the difference.
“We used to be very busy but we would come home, go out to dinner and sleep, but there is a little less of that!”
Marvin and his wife, ITV presenter and former The Saturdays popstar Rochelle Humes, share two daughters, eight-year-old Alaia-Mai and four-year-old Valentina and one-year-old son, Blake, together.
He said: “But it’s definitely better because I think we like it more.
“The first time around was such a whirlwind and it was on that hamster wheel all the time, but now we’re doing what we want to do and being on tour is the best part of what we do.”
They were the finalists of The X Factor series five, losing to Alexandra Burke in first place.
Despite numerous chart-topping singles and nationwide concerts to their name, the boys decided to go their separate ways in May 2013 after releasing their biggest collection of hits and completing their third arena tour.
JLS returned to the limelight last year, however, announcing that they would be taking part in a reunion concert called the Beat Again Tour.
“It’s incredible,” beamed Oritse, 35, recognized as the founding member of the group. “Sold out arenas across the country, biggest tour of the year!
“We also did a show for the NHS and all the key workers – it was super emotional – to thank you for all the hard work they have done over the past few years, saving lives and taking care of all of us.
“It was a beautiful moment.”
Since leaving the group in 2013, Oritse and his then-girlfriend Aimee Jade “AJ” Azari, with whom he now shares a son, have competed in the ITV dance competition, Stepping Out, reaching the final against Brian. McFadden and Vogue Williams.
Meanwhile, his bandmate Aston Merrygold released his first solo album “Showstopper”. He also participated in the fifteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing where he reached the seventh week of competition, and later in The Masked Singer.
Aston and longtime partner Sarah Louise Richards share two sons, Grayson Jax, three, and Macaulay Shay, one.
“We definitely have a group of three,” said JB Gill, latest JLS member, 35, with a laugh. “And we have a party of five and we can do anything!”
JB, who is heavily involved in the agricultural industry after acquiring his own turkey farm, shares two children with his wife Chloe Tangney, a son named Ace Jeremiah and a daughter named Chiara Sapphire.
He said: “There were tears when they took the stage at the London show and there were tears when they had to leave the stage. All of our kids are huge fans, they love new songs and they love old songs.
“They’re standing there with their hands up singing, it’s incredibly special.”
Their latest album, 2.0, also includes a song called “Eternal Love” which was written by Ed Sheeran, as well as their latest single “Postcards”.
