Double-platinum producer working on building Hub City’s music industry

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – Hattiesburg is constantly growing as a city. There are new restaurants, gyms and shops.

But what about the music industry? A double-platinum local producer has big plans for talented musicians and artists in Hub City.

“Do you know what that means? Double platinum? It means you sold two million copies of that single song. Just one song, two million people downloaded and listened to that song. So if your album goes double platinum, two million people bought it,” says Hinton.

Otis Ray Hinton Jr. is the owner of Heartbeatz Studioz. He sees a lot of potential in Hattiesburg, which is why he built his music studio right in the heart of Hub City.

“That’s why I stayed here and then I chose Hattiesburg because I’m from Picayune, and it’s a small town. Hattiesburg just up the street. There’s a lot of growth development going on in the city right now,” Hinton says.

Hinton has worked with some really great rappers.

“Piles, Rocko, Boosie, Kevin Gates, Moneybagg Yo, Yungeen Ace, JayDaYoungan, Trae Da Truth…” Hinton said.

He says he wants to build a big music empire in his home country, saying Mississippi needs someone like him to help grow its music industry.

“There’s a lot of talent here and that’s really what I want to do. I want to grab it again and start a No Limit [Records] or cash [Records]. You know what I mean, something like that here. I believe we can do it. We have the manpower. We have talent. Hattiesburg has some very talented artists,” says Hinton.

When he’s not in his studio working with his clients, Hinton trains the next generation.

“They have just set up a studio in all of the boys and girls clubs in the Gulf Coast area. And they had me train the staff on how to conceive the children,” says Hinton.

In addition to producing music, Hinton also produces a podcast called “The Music Playground”.
