FORT DRUM, NY (August 6, 2021) – Country music artist Randy Houser will star at the free “Salute to the Troops Tribute” concert on September 1 at Fort Drum’s Division Hill.
Houser recorded three No. 1 hits with his album “How Country Feels” and he was critically acclaimed for “Like A Cowboy,” nominated for Song of the Year by the Country Music Association.
The announcement was made today by Tina Lanier, Director of the AmeriCU Financial Center, and Alissa Sykes Tulloch, Director of the AmeriCU Experience.
“Randy is a huge supporter of our army and when he found out he was playing Mountainfest he was thrilled,” Lanier said. “We are delighted to have him headlining our concert this year.”
Blanco Brown, a national rap, hip-hop and country artist best known for the genre-merging hit “The Git Up,” has been announced as the opening act.
This is the ninth year that the AmeriCU Credit Union has sponsored the concert in support of 10th Mountain Division (LI) soldiers and their families, as well as those in neighboring communities.
“The AmeriCU Troop Tribute concert is a special thank you to the US Army’s 10th Mountain Division and those posted to Fort Drum,” said Sykes Tulloch. “We are grateful to families, civilians and veterans for all they do in service of our country. “
Brig. Gen. (P) Milford H. Beagle Jr., 10th Mountain Division (LI) and Commander Fort Drum, attended the announcement at Memorial Park and thanked all sponsors for working tirelessly to organize Mountainfest This year.
“We are so excited about this event,” he said. “And the reason is, this is the time when we can open our doors to our community and have all of our families and friends there and just enjoy a special day among all of us.”
Beagle said postal officials continue to monitor COVID-19 figures in the region and will communicate any further security measures if necessary.
“We understand that COVID is still here,” he said. “COVID hasn’t gone anywhere, he hasn’t taken a vacation, but we’re very comfortable with our measurements. And we’ll continue to monitor them, day in and day out, as we get closer to Mountainfest. “
Mountainfest will start at noon on September 1 and the concert will start at 6 p.m., followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
Other highlights of this year’s Mountainfest include mid-course games and activities, food trucks, the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers car show, and the Salute to the Nation ceremony at 4 p.m.
Participants should be aware of the following items that are prohibited to bring to Mountainfest:
- Marijuana is not legal on federal property
- No alcohol
- No cooler (exceptions will be made for maternity or medical needs)
- No boxes or packages
- No backpacks or bags
- No weapon of any kind
- No glass bottles
- No pets (service animals will be allowed)
Public off-station access to Mountainfest and the concert will only be via Lewis Avenue Gate, from Route 26. The gate will open at noon. Vehicles will be randomly selected from incoming traffic for additional screening. All other doors will work normally for DoD ID card holders.
